Summer Reading Challenge

Wild About Reading: RTRL Summer Reading Challenge 2025/2026
Get wild about reading this summer with Richmond Tweed Regional Library’s Summer Reading Challenge!
From 1 December 2025 to 20 January 2026, children and families across the region are invited to keep reading, exploring, and creating through a fun mix of activities designed to make reading part of every summer adventure — and then join us at our SRC Finale Parties on Wednesday 21 January to celebrate.
How it works
Pick up your free activity booklet from any RTRL branch and start completing reading and literacy challenges at your own pace. The activity booklets include creative bingo challenges, literacy activities, book reviews and much more!
How to submit your entries
Each time a child completes an activity in their booklet, they fill out a detachable prize entry slip and return it to the library desk. Library staff will stamp their booklet and place the slip into the branch's official SRC entry box. Each completed activity equals one entry into the draw — so the more activities completed, the more chances to win. If a family can’t visit the library in person, staff can register them over the phone and post or email a copy of the activity booklet.
Great prizes to be won!
By submitting completed activities, children go into the draw for some fantastic prizes:
Major prizes: Tablets (one per area – Byron, Ballina, Lismore, and Tweed) to help families access our free eBooks, audiobooks, and Story Box Library.
- Tablets support digital literacy and learning across age groups
- They promote access to free digital reading resources at home
- They help families stay connected to the library, even if they can’t visit regularly
- They offer flexible reading options for different learning styles and abilities
Runner-up prizes: Four family pool passes per area — a perfect way to enjoy a refreshing, active day out at a local community pool. These prizes are a popular summer favourite and a great way for families to celebrate their efforts with a fun outing close to home.
Bonus book prizes: Win a new book of your own each week, just by taking part
When will prizes be drawn?
- Bonus book prizes will be drawn at each branch throughout December and January
- Major and runner-up prize draws will be held during our Summer Reading Challenge Finale Parties on Wednesday 21 January 2026 at 10.00 am, where the winners will be announced and celebrated Celebrate at your local library
All participants are invited to join us for our Summer Reading Challenge Finale Parties—a fun reward for everyone who took part.

Why we run the challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge helps children stay connected to stories, spark their imaginations, and keep building their reading skills while school is out. It’s a fun and flexible way for families to enjoy everything their local library has to offer — from books and story time to digital resources and summer activities.
Visit your local Richmond Tweed Regional Library branch from 1 December 2025 to collect your booklet and start your summer reading adventure.
