Joining the library
Becoming a Member
Membership of the library service is free to all residents of the Ballina Shire, Byron Shire, Lismore City and Tweed Shire. You can join at any branch of the library by presenting proof of your name and current address. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 18 years require a signature from their parent or guardian. To gain full membership with the ability to borrow physical library items and use the library computers, you will need to visit your local library to provide proof of identity and address as specified in the Membership Policy below. You can start your membership online (13 years and older only) and gain immediate access to the Online Library resources.
Joining Online
You can join the library online by clicking on the button below and gain immediate access to the Online Library after you have read and accepted the membership conditions.
You can then head into one of our branches, verify your details, and collect your membership card.
Conditions of Membership
- To borrow items, you must present your library membership card.
- All items may be borrowed for the term stated in the Membership Policy
- You may borrow up to the maximum number of items allowable for your membership type as specified in the Membership policy. These can be borrowed from and returned to any branch of Richmond Tweed Regional Library.
- Items may be renewed twice at any branch or online through the website or Library App. All items not reserved by another borrower will be auto renewed twice (does not include Popular Picks or Quick Reads). Staff are also happy to renew items over the telephone during opening hours, please have your library card number ready when calling. If a reservation has been placed by another borrower on an item you have out on loan, a renewal is not possible.
- Items may be returned at any branch of the library. After hour chutes are also available at all branches.
- A reservation and/or inter-library loan service is available for those items which are on loan, available at another branch or at another library service. A small fee is charged for this service. You can place your own reservations for most items via the public access catalogue at our branches or through the online catalogue.
- Lost or damaged items will result in a cost to the library member.
- If you change your address or name please notify us immediately.
- Please report lost or stolen cards to the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.

Register Online
You may join the library online by clicking on the button below after you have read and accepted the membership conditions. With your online membership you can:
- Borrow up to 8 items on BorrowBox (4 eAudiobooks and 4 eBooks)
- Borrow up to 4 eAudiobooks and 4 eBooks on Libby
- Borrow any eMagazine on Libby
- Borrow any available eAudiobook or eBook on IndyReads
- Access other eResources such as Story Box Library and Transparent Language
Conditions of Online Membership
- Online memberships expire after 6 months. You will need to visit your local library branch to renew your membership
- To obtain a full membership, you must present photo ID with your name and address
- If you finish with your eResource early, return it so the next person can access it
- If you change your address or name please notify us immediately
- Membership details are confidential and will not be disclosed to other parties

Interlibrary loans
If we don't carry an item you're looking for, you may be able to borrow it from another library service in Australia. This is called an interlibrary loan, and can be made online or in person at the library. more
